I noticed this caterpillar on my kayak while kayaking on Lake Collins. I then carefully paddled back to camp so that I could take pictures of it. I had to rescue it a few times when it fell into the water.

This dragonfly was on a totem pole in Ketchikan, Alaska. I started taking pictures of it and suddenly people were more interested in the dragonfly than the totem pole.

I got to hold this tarantula after running the Brazen Tarantula 5K.

Snowman

Not a bug, but I made this little snowman while on a backpacking trip in the Marble Mountains of Northern California. There was snow on the ground in early August. The snowman is about one foot tall.

Ostrich

We saw this guy when we visited an ostrich farm in Arizona. The ostriches are big, strong, and scary!

Owl moth

When seen from the top, this moth looks like it has the eyes of an owl. This is one of the first bug pictures I ever took. I had been inspired by a science talk about bugs and flowers, given by a local professor at Feather River Camp.

This spider was in the men's room at the ATV tour in Hawaii. Vincent told me it was there and I ran in to get a picture. The spider was about 8 inches in diameter.

Jamie made me a birthday cake. One day, after wae had eaten some of it, I opened the refrigerator and this half eaten bear was smiling at me. I love this picture.

Jumping Spider

I found this spider in the mailbox one day. I ran in the house and got my camera, then proceeded to coax the spider out of the mailbox where I could get more light. I later found out that it was a JUMPING spider! Luckily, it didn't jump while I was bothering it.
