What is a kayak squeeze? It is a 5 hour trip put on by Taupo Kayaking Adventures where you kayak down the Waikato River for a couple of hours, then soak in a natural hot pool. Where does the sqeeze come in? Well, to get to the pool, you have to squeeze through a narrow passage, wade up a stream, and climb a waterfall. Is it worth it? YES!
Our trip started with a 30 minute drive to the Waikato River where we donned rainjackets and spray skirts, and took off. This was the first time I have kayaked with a spray skirt. It was NICE! I think I may have to buy one for my kayak.
As we kayaked down the river, we saw steam over on the right hand side, so we went over and saw water boiling out of the rocks and pouring into the river.

After about 2 hours, we paddled up a small stream and beached the kayaks. Then we waded further up the stream, squeezing between a wall of rock. After awhile, we got to a waterfall. The water coming down was very warm, like taking a shower. We took turns climbing to the top where there was a hot pool. It was a nice place to just sit and soak. After a while, we waded back to the kayaks and finished paddling to the end of the trip and a drive back to Lake Taupo.
We had a great time and would recommend the trip to anyone in the area.
